Spinal Decompression, non-surgical

DTS SPINAL DECOMPRESSION INFORMATION SHEET

Spinal decompression is FDA cleared and has been clinically proven with a high success rate with the pain and symptoms associated with herniated and/or bulging discs…even after failed surgery.  Research indicates the disc is responsible for a significant number of Lumbar/Leg pain and neck/arm pain syndromes. Compression increases intradiscal pressure leading to annular compromise and possible extrusion of nuclear material

A nerve that is being pinched is being pinched by an identifiable something. That something is usually a combination of 3 specific identifiable factors listed below:

1.) A bulging or herniated disc that places direct pressure on the nerve.  Spinal Decompression Therapy helps by creating negative pressure (or a vacuum) within the disc to help reduce compression and compromise of the annular fibers.

2.) A degenerating disc that is drying out and losing its shock-absorbing properties as well as its actual height resulting in the vertebra becoming closer together, placing direct physical pressure on the nerve.   Spinal Decompression Therapy helps by creating negative pressure (or a vacuum) inside the disc to pull water, oxygen, and nutrients into the disc, thereby re-hydrating it.

3.) The tissue around a stressed spinal joint is inflamed or swollen putting direct physical pressure against the nerve.  Spinal Decompression Therapy helps by relieving the stress on the joint allowing the swelling and inflammation to subside.

What are treatments like? After lying on the comfortable spinal decompression bed, you will be fitted with an automatic shoulder support system. The automatic shoulder support system helps to stabilize your upper body. The split table design decreases friction and allows separation of the vertebra, minimizing the effect of gravity.

Basically, you lay down and the spinal decompression computer simulates an anti-gravity effect on your backs which helps herniated material return to its normal position and stops the pain. Patients describe the treatment as gentle, painless, intermittent pulling of your back. Many patients actually fall asleep during treatment!

How long are treatments and how many do you need? Patients typically undergo 15 to 20 treatment sessions that may be subdivided into three different stages; Acute, Sub acute and Decompression. Each treatment lasts between 20-45 minutes. This, of course, depends on your individual case and is determined by a thorough evaluation. Following each session, a cold pack and electric muscle stimulation may be applied to help pain relief and speed the healing process. It is important to note that many patients get substantial, immediate relief after just a few treatments. Some patients experience relief after just one. The really good news is…this is not something you have to continue to do for the rest of your life! So it is not a big commitment.

 Paraspinal Thermography Scans

Paraspinal Thermography Scans/Paraspinal Infrared Scans are performed in our office of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions and is an accepted method of analysis for the presence of abnormal autonomic neurophysiology. The data gathered during the thermal scan is compared to literature based normative values to determine the extent of neuropathophysiology.

Digital X-Ray, onsite

Digital X-Rays are efficient, safe, and provide high-quality images to help us diagnose and document the source of your pain.  X-rays also allow to effectively view the general condition of your spine for proper analysis and clinical management.  If you are injured, we hope your recovery starts here soon!

MRI

A MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan uses a strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.                                                             Here at Hope Chiropractic, we order MRIs to diagnose injuries that may otherwise be missed and to make clinical decisions that maybe crucial to your care/case.
